Antonio Monasterio Ensamble Live at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic’s Music Room | 2nd October | La Feria

Saranne Carrasco-Brennan, Luma Creations – 08/05/25

Luma Creations is proud to present a truly special and culturally significant event as part of its annual International Latin American Arts and Culture Festival 2025, La Feria: the extraordinary Antonio Monasterio Ensamble will perform at the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic’s Music Room on Thursday, 2nd October 2025.

This unique concert is more than just exceptional music, it represents an international dialogue between two UNESCO Cities of Music: Valparaíso, Chile, and Liverpool, UK. In an exciting first for Luma Creations, this event will also feature a performance by a Liverpool-based artist, soon to be announced, creating a dynamic musical exchange that reflects the deeply rooted and diverse cultural heritages of both cities.

As recipients of the International Reach Award at the Liverpool City Region Culture and Creativity Awards 2025, Luma Creations is continuing to expand its international footprint. With a strong foundation in cultural exchange and global collaboration, the organisation is dedicated to developing a vibrant, internationally connected programme. This includes fostering artistic partnerships, supporting creative exchange, and ensuring that participants, audiences, and partners alike can engage with the rich and diverse cultures, communities, and stories of Latin America.

Introducing Antonio Monasterio Ensamble

Formed in 2016 by Chilean composer and guitarist Antonio Monasterio, the ensemble is known for its bold and original approach to world music and jazz. The group seamlessly blends rhythm, timbre, and global musical traditions into immersive, genre-defying compositions. Their work is a testament to the power of musical syncretism and creative freedom.

The ensemble features an acclaimed line-up of musicians from across Chile:

Antonio Monasterio – Composition & Guitar

Rubio – Saxophone
Joaquín Fuentes – Piano
Cristian Baltazar – Drums
Felipe Ovalle – Bass
icolás Reyes – Electric Guitar

Their 2018 debut album Centro y Periferia received critical acclaim for its intricate arrangements and cross-cultural instrumentation. Their follow-up release, Las Furias y el Mar (2023), marked a powerful evolution in their sound, earning them the Pulsar Award 2024 for Best Jazz Fusion Artist and international recognition at the WE:NOW International Arts Festival in Madrid.

Having already graced prestigious festivals across Latin America and Asia—from Seoul Music Week and Meet in Beijing to performances in Tokyo and beyond—this Liverpool concert marks the group’s highly anticipated UK debut, and the start of the band’s first European Tour that will bring them to Switzerland, Spain, Germany, France and Denmark.

A Night of International Sound and Local Soul

In addition to the Chilean ensemble, the evening will feature a Liverpool-based artist or band (to be announced soon), symbolising the strength and potential of cross-cultural collaboration within the UNESCO Music City Network while bringing a unique and varied musical experience to the audience. This pairing not only reflects Liverpool’s and Luma Creations’ ongoing commitment to global artistic exchange, but also offers a platform for local talent to share the stage with international artists in a creative and diverse space that brings our communities together.
