Prepare to be captivated by the rich sounds of Grupo Luma as they take the stage alongside renowned guests Montserrat Fuentes Romero, George Peguero, and Saranne Carrasco-Brennan. This extraordinary collaboration promises a night of true artistry and the enduring spirit of Latin American culture.
Grupo Luma is a five-piece ensemble led by Chilean brothers Francisco and Oscar Carrasco, joined by the immensely talented Erik Bichard, P. Max Alder, and Phil Hargreaves. The group masterfully blends original compositions with classic songs from across Latin America, taking audiences on an inspiring journey through the continent’s vibrant musical heritage.
Using an exciting array of instruments—including the Andean charango and quena (bamboo flute), Venezuelan cuatro, Peruvian cajón, Argentinian bombo, trumpet, saxophone, flute, and various percussion—Grupo Luma weaves melodies and rhythms that transport listeners to the heart of Latin America.
Fifty Years of Stories and Song
This performance is deeply personal for Francisco and Oscar, who fled Chile with their family in 1975, seeking refuge from a brutal dictatorship, marking the anniversary of 50 years since they came to this country. Now based in Liverpool, the brothers have shared their powerful story of resilience through music, performing at prestigious events such as La Linea: The London Latin Music Festival, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, and international stages across Europe and Africa. They’ve been featured on Channel 4, BBC Radio 4, BBC 6 Music, and the BBC World Service, gaining widespread acclaim for their poignant performances.
The concert will highlight Grupo Luma’s most cherished compositions from the past three decades, as well as contemporary arrangements of iconic songs by Victor Jara, Violeta Parra, and other legends of the Nueva Canción movement—a Latin American cultural renaissance that championed progressive change through music.
A Night of Collaboration and Celebration
For this special performance, Grupo Luma will be joined by celebrated Mexican pianist Montserrat Fuentes Romero, Cuban singer-songwriter George Peguero, and Chilean-British vocalist Saranne Carrasco-Brennan. In addition to performing highlights from their own repertoires, these guest artists will join Grupo Luma for collaborative pieces, creating a truly unique celebration of Latin American culture.
