1pm | Liverpool World Museum
Luma Creations is thrilled to announce Cuerpos del Tiempo (Bodies of Time), an innovative collaborative project with the Liverpool World Museum that launches on Saturday, 15 February 2025, at 1pm at Liverpool World Museum. Funded by the Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund, this initiative invites Latin American communities across the North West to help reimagine the museum’s Latin American collections, with a redisplay planned for 2025-2026.
At the heart of this project is the Amoxtli Tezcatlipoca (“The Book of the Smoking Mirror”), one of fewer than 15 surviving pre-colonial Mexican codices. This extraordinary manuscript embodies cultural resilience and indigenous heritage. Visitors will see it featured in the World Cultures Gallery’s new display in late 2025.
The launch event offers an exciting programme celebrating Latin American culture with talks, performances, and interactive workshops. Highlights include:
- Project Presentation: Meghan Backhouse, Lead Curator of Global Cultures, and Francisco Carrasco FRSA, CEO & Creative Director of Luma Creations, introduce Cuerpos del Tiempo.
- Caporales Dance Performance: A lively Bolivian folk dance by the Luma Dance Troupe.
- Talk on the Amoxtli Tezcatlipoca: Jose Sherwood Gonzales, PhD Candidate, Manchester Metropolitan University, shares insights into this rare artefact.
- Music Performances: The Luma Trio brings the vibrant sounds of Latin America.
- Talk on Indigenous Cultures: Dr Beatriz Marin Aguilera, University of Liverpool, explores South America’s indigenous heritage.
- Cumbia Dance Performance: The Luma Dance Troupe showcases the joyful movements of cumbia.
