Latin American Music Workshops

Music Workshops

Music Workshops

Since January, LUMA Creations have been delivering Latin American Music Workshops every Tuesday to young participants from as local as Toxteth, where we are based, to as far as the Wirral. These workshops aim to give participants an insight and deeper understanding of traditional Latin American instruments, melodies, rhythms and culture.

Currently, in the workshops which are led by Oscar Carrasco, students are being taught about Andean music and are learning how to play basic rhythms and melodies on traditional instruments including, the charango; a small ten-string instrument, the quena; an Andean wind instrument, the bombo leguero and the Spanish guitar.

During these workshops, students are going to learn how to play a series of songs that are well-known in Latin America, and they will also learn how to sing them in Spanish. The first song the young participants are learning is called “Carnavalito” which is from the Huayno genre, typically heard at carnivals in the North of Chile, South of Peru, Southwest of Bolivia and Northeast of Argentina.

The Latin American Music Workshops take place every Tuesday. Ages 8-11 from 5pm to 6pm and ages 12+ from 6:30pm to 8pm. We still have places available for both times. To find out more and to register please email activities@lumacreations.org.
